About Yorkies

All Yorkies are individuals and like you and me they will have their own unique personalities and traits. As a breed, however, they have many common traits.

Yorkies are members of the AKC Toy Group. They weigh between 4-7 pounds as adult dogs. They should be fed high-quality food with balanced nutrition for their age and provided with the proper serving size to avoid obesity. They are generally healthy dogs, but are more at risk for hypoglycemia than other breeds.

They have silky, floor length coats of steel blue and gold, which are very similar to human hair and require regular maintenance and grooming. They should be regularly bathed, but do not shed much relative to other breeds.

Yorkies have larger than life personalities in tiny dog bodies. They are loyal, lovable, and energetic. This mix allows them to be good companions and fierce watchdogs. They are also intelligent and eager to please. Positive reinforcement, such as praise and treats, will assist with training. They should also be socialized starting at a young age in order to familiarize them with people and other dogs.

Finally, Yorkies, like all dog breeds, require love and attention. If raised in a good home, your Yorkie will be by your side for many years to come.
